Maha Shivaratri 2020– Maha Shivaratri is one of the popular Hindu festivals. Each and every year the festival is celebrating in honor of Lord Shiva. Especially marks the wedding day of Shiva. In the Hindu calendar has the Shivaratri on every lunar-solar month. On the 13th night and 14th day of the month. But once a year towards the end of the winter( most of the month is Feb/March).

People are offering milk, sweets, fruits, leaves to the Shiva. This day some people perform tantric worship of Shiva, fasting with Vedic and some perform meditative yoga. All the day in Shiva temple Shiva holy mantra “Om Namah Shiva” is chanted.

Based on the Hindu Luni Solar calendar Shivaratri celebrate over three or ten days. The main festival is called a Maha Shivaratri or a great Shivaratri. Which takes place on the 13th night(the moon Sinks) and the 14th day of the month of Falgun.

Shivaratri considers as the day when the Adi Yogi or the first Guru awakened his consciousness at the physical level of existence. According to the tantra in that level of consciousness, there is no objective experience and the mind is energized. For this festival the special drink is prepared is called a Thandai mixture of almonds, milk, and cannabis. It is believed that Shiva is especially very much like cannabis. The drink is specially prepared for taking after long fast, the drink is very refreshing.

MahaShivaratri festival is associated with so many stories. Some people say Shivaratri is a wedding day of Lord Shiva to Devi Parvati. Some believed that Shiva performs ‘Tandava’  dance of preservation, Primitive creation and destruction.

In Gujarat during Mahashivaratri observe severe fast in honor of Lord Shiva. Many followers follow Shivratri without drinking even one drop of water for a full day. In Gujarat, it is believed that the sincere worship of devotees cleanses a person of all sins and free him from the cycle of birth and death.

But those people have a high level of acidity fasting alone water is not recommended.

Avoid Heavy work

During fasting your main focus is to stay relax and enjoy the day. Because of any kind of heavy work increase your metabolic rate. It can make you hungry, thirsty and overtired. So be relax listen to devotional songs, read some spiritual books.

Foods to eat during fasting

Those people have any kind of health problem or find it difficult to become hungry. Fasting with some quality liquids is helpfull for you like herbal tea, yogurt, milkshake, Buttermilk.

Shivaratri Rituals
