Rekha Gupta is an Indian politician and lawyer who is currently serving as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi. She is a well-known leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been connected with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since her childhood. She is the 4th woman is Delhi’s history to become Chief Minster, after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi Marlena.
Rekha Gupta stared his political journey in 1992 when she joined Daulat Ram College at Delhi University and became a member of the student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
She was elected President of the Delhi University Student’s Union in 1996. Later, she served as a councilor in the North Delhi Municipality Corporation for Uttari Pitampura in 2007 and 2012. Later, became Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, eventually rising to the post of Chief Minister of Delhi.
Rekha Gupta (Rekha Jindal) was born on 19 July 1974 in Nandgarh village, Jind, Haryana. When she was two years old, her family moved to Delhi after her father, Jai Bhagwan Jindal, took charge as the branch manager of the State bank of India in Pitampura. Her mother, Urmila Jindal was a homemaker.
Rekha completed her B. Com. degree from Daulat Ram College under Delhi University and later earned her LL.B. degree from IMIRC College of Law, Bhaina, Ghaziabad under Chaudhury Charan Singh University, Meerut in 2022.
In 1998, Rekha Gupta married Manish Gupta, an industrialist specializing in brass parts. The couple has two children – a son, Nikunj Gupta, and a daughter, Harshita Gupta.
Rekha Gupta started her political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Delhi University’s Daulat ram College and later became the Delhi University Student’s Union (DUSU) President in 1996
Rekha Gupta is a first time MLA from the Shalimar Bagh constituency in Delhi. She won the seat in the February 2025 Delhi Assembly elections by a margin of nearly 30,000 votes and became the Chief Minister of Delhi. She had previously contested the Shalimar Bagh Assembly seat in 2015 and 2020 but did not win those elections.
Rekha Gupta is the fourth woman to become the Chief Minister of the national Capital Territory of Delhi, following Shushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi Merlina.
