Gaurav Gogoi began his political career in 2014 when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Kaliabor constituency of Assam.he contested on the Indian national Congress (INC) ticket and won the election by a margin of over 93,000 votes, defeating BJP candidate Mrinal Kumar Saikia.
During his first term (2014-2019), he served on several important parliamentary bodies. These included the Standing Committee on Railways, the Standing Committee on Defence, the Committee on Violation of Protocol Norms, and the Consultive Committee of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
In 2019, Gaurav Gogoi was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Kaliabor constituency for his second term. During this period, he was a Member of the Standing Committee on Finance, the Committee on Government Assurances, and the Consultive Committee of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
In the 2024 general elections, Gaurav Gogoi won his third consecutive term as a Member Of Parliament from the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, representing the 18th Lok Sabha. In his third term, he has served as a Member of the Business Advisory Committee, the Joint Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Committee on Finance.
