Dr. Pramod Sawant is an Indian politician and an Ayurvedic Practitioner. He is currently serving the 13th Chief Minister of Goa. Sawant, began his political journey with the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) at the booth level.
In 2008, the then Chief Minister Manohar Bhai Parrikar encouraged him to contest the election from the Pali constituency. Dr. Sawant resigned from his class 1 gazetted job to take part in the election, but he did not win that year.
Later, in 2010, he became the State President of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP). After that, he won the Goa Legislative Assembly seat from Sanquelim in 2012, 2017 and 2022.
In 2019, after the passing of Manohar Bhai Parrikar, Dr, Sawant was elected by the Legislative Assembly as the Chief Minister of Goa.
Pramod Sawant was born on 24 April 1973 in Mapusa, Goa. His father, Pandurang Sawant, worked as a Machine Operator in a mining company and was actively involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh. His mother, Padmini Pandurang Sawant, was a homemaker. She passed away on 10 April 2018.
Pramod Sawant completed his early schooling in Goa. After Higher Secondary School, he studied at the Ayurvedic Medical College of Ganga Education Society in Kolhapur, where he earned his Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree in 1996.
Inspired by his father’s dedication to social service, his own interest in helping people to grew stronger. This motivated him to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, which he completed at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune in 2010.
On 28 May 2005, Dr. Sawant married Sulakshana Sawant, who is a teacher and also served as the President of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Goa. The couple has a daughter named Parthivi Sawant.
In 2008, encourage by Manohar Bhai Parrikar, Pramod Sawant made a bold choice to resign from his Class-I gazetted job and content the election from Pali. Though he did not win, this brave step marked the true beginning of his political journey. Later, in 2012 he achieved success by winning from the Sanquelim constituency.
While working as an Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Sawant started “Sai Life Care”, an NGO to help needy, showing his early commitment to social welfare.
In 2022, Dr. Pramod Sawant took charge as the Chief Minister of Goa for the second times on March 28. He was re-elected from the Sanquelim constituency as a Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) candidate in the State Assembly elections.
