The case involved allegations linked to the purchase of land measuring over 8 acres. Hemant Soren denied all charges and stated that the case was politically motivated.

During his time in custody, Champai Soren was appointed as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand to lead the government.

Resolve Status:

Hemant Soren was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court in June 2024. After his release, he returned as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand in July 2024.

Hemant Soren is an Indian politician and the 11^th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He is the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party and also leads the state assembly.

He started his political career as a Member of the Rajya Sabha in 2009. After his brother passed away, he contested the Jharkhand Assembly election from the Dumka seat, which his brother earlier represented. He won the election and left the Rajya Sabha in January 2010.

Hemant Soren served as Chief Minister of Jharkhand twice – first from 2013 to 2014 and again from 2019 to 2024. He was also the deputy Chief minister from 2010 to 2013.

On 31 January 2024, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a land scam case. He got bail and was released from jail on 28 June 2024. He became Chief Minister again in July 2024.
