Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician and the 15th Chief Minister of Assam. He was first elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2001 from Jalukbari constituency. He was previously a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), and later joined the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) on 23 August 2015.
He also serves as the Convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), contributing to political coordination across the northeastern region.

Himanta Biswa Sarma earned his LL. B. degree from BRM Government Law College of Guwahati in 1995 and practiced at the Gauhati High Court from 1996 to 2001.
Himanta Biswa Sarma completed his master degree in political science from Cotton College (now Cotton University) under Gauhati University in 1994.
